A spirited rendition of the donut establishment, Donut Prince, in Burbank, CA.

Ideas considered while painting:

  • Donuts/Burbank/Mini mall
  • The March 16th Spa Shootings in Atlanta Georgia on March 16, 2021
  • Invisible service work, sex work, the notion of "good people"
  • The wealth gap inside the Asian community and the theme of "model minority" where people of color compete with one another in an attempt to gain access to money, power, privilege and/or whiteness
  • My own feelings of internalized racism, sense of self worth, my frustrations, my irritability, being a person of mixed race who was born the color of a paper bag
  • How the invisible becomes visible once touched by white terrorism and gun violence
  • Full and ravaged and tired and angry consciousness of how gun violence destroys and shatters everyone and everything
  • Conscious and constant resistance against ingrained patterns, trying not to light everything on fire all the time
  • Ugh god... I just want a donut.
